Custard Ice Cream

  • 6 egg yolks
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3-4 tbsp of National Banana Custard Powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract


  • Combine the egg yolks, sugar and salt in a bowl. Whip the mixture until it becomes thick
  • Add National Banana Custard Powder in half cup milk and mix it well
  • Heat the milk in a pot and add custard powder to it and gradually beat it into the egg mixture
  • Place the bowl over a water bath or double boiler. Continue to heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon
  • Immediately stir in the cold cream to stop the cooking. Add the vanilla extract
  • Chill the mixture for at least 12 hours, then freeze in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer's direction
  • Place the ice cream in the freezer and freeze for 4 hours for a consistency similar to soft serve
